The Bucyrus City Schools and the GE Lighting Bucyrus Lamp Plant have had a strong relationship since the plant’s founding in 1942. That relationship has strengthened with the recent donation of GE lamps and lighting fixtures to light the field within the district’s Athletic Complex.
The GE Lighting Bucyrus Lamp Plant donated 48 Powr-Spot™ Floodlights to the Bucyrus City Schools Athletic Complex. Along with being the home field for Redmen athletic teams, the complex serves as a venue for many community events, most notably the annual Crawford County Relay for Life. The estimated retail value of the lighting donation, which was made possible through the local plant and a GE Lighting plant in Hendersonville, NC, is more than $12,000.
“We are very grateful that the GE Lighting Bucyrus Lamp Plant has made this significant contribution,” Bucyrus City Schools Superintendent Kevin Kimmel said. “Our Athletic Complex has needed this upgrade for some time, and this donation helped expedite our timeline for the renovation.”
“GE Lighting is honored to be able to support the activities of the Bucyrus City Schools and large community events, such as Relay for Life, which will benefit from a well-lit field,” added Jyl Zeis, Bucyrus Lamp Plant HR Specialist. “The donation of lighting to the Bucyrus City Schools follows the recent announcement of 70 job additions at the GE Lighting Bucyrus Lamp Plant for the production of the U.S.-manufactured GE Energy-Efficient Soft White bulbs.”
The Bucyrus City Schools will recognize the contributions of the GE Lighting Bucyrus Lamp Plant when the district presents a commemorative plaque to plant officials prior to kickoff of the football team’s home opener against Hillsdale Friday, Sept. 6.
