BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Bucyrus City Schools held a hands-on event today, giving high school juniors the opportunity to engage with collaborative robots, drones and other advanced manufacturing technologies.

The event aimed to spark student interest in next year’s Advanced Manufacturing courses, which will offer industry-recognized credentials for high-demand careers.

The event was made possible in part by the Ohio Career Technical Education Equipment Grant, recently awarded to the district. The grant funds career-tech equipment and courses, providing students with hands-on experience with cutting-edge tools.

Superintendent Bob Britton emphasized the event’s significance in shaping students’ futures.

“Providing our students with hands-on experience in STEM and advanced manufacturing is critical to preparing them for success beyond high school,” Britton said. “With the support of the CTE Equipment Grant, we are preparing students with the skills they need to earn valuable credentials and pursue high-wage, in-demand careers.”

The Advanced Manufacturing program will give students experience with robotics, automation, and precision manufacturing technologies, aligning with regional workforce demands.

Project Director Amy Wood said the event was about “showing them real career possibilities in STEM fields.”

“Our programs for next year will ensure students understand the local opportunities available to them and the value of earning industry-recognized credentials while still in high school,” Wood said.

Partnerships with local businesses and industry leaders will enhance student learning and workforce development. The district will convene the Project Advisory Committee on March 11, 2025, to gather feedback from local employers and stakeholders.
