The Bucyrus City School District’s Board of Education kept things short and sweet at its special meeting Friday afternoon. The meeting was called as a precursor to tours of both the Primary and Secondary school buildings, and the agenda’s discussion largely dealt with accepting and approving different levels of personnel.
Superintendent Kevin Kimmel couldn’t be more excited. According to Kimmel, there is a 20-percent turnover of staff this year, with 19 new teachers joining the Bucyrus family. Of those 19, five are alumni that once walked the same halls themselves, including Jordan Fields, who served as the first Student Representative on the school board.
“We have an awesome staff this year,” Kimmel said, “I’m very excited.”
With both a commitment to excellence and the necessities of training a new group of employees, great care is being taken to prepare the teachers for meeting the students. Last weekend, a large group attended a three-day leadership session and, according to Kimmel, it causes for some introspection and wondering how all teachers, veteran or new, can best evaluate themselves and bring what is learned back to the families.
Kevin Kimmel concluded the session by reminding community members to keep their ears out and stay involved, as many great opportunities are beginning when school starts, including the district wide open house on Aug. 17, during which the elementary school will be open from 5 to 6:30 p.m., and the High School will be open from 6:30 to 7:30, with dinner being served in the cafeteria. Meet the teams follows at 7:30.
Finally, all community members are encouraged to support the Bucyrus Band Boosters in their booth at the Bratwurst Festival, to be located across from Wendy’s, just outside of the Bratwurst Festival Office.
Classes at Bucyrus High School will resume on Aug. 19.
