On Tuesday, at 4:17 PM The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a telephone call in regards to a vehicle striking a bicycle on SR 98 West of the intersection of Beechgrove Road near Producer’s. Deputies were dispatched along with Portsmouth Ambulance Service and members of the Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department. Upon Deputies arrival it was discovered that seventy-five-year-old Robert T. Caldwell who resides in Bucyrus was riding his gray in color Trek 7000 bicycle.

Southwest on SR 98 and was struck by a blue on color 2013 Ford Fiesta that was driven by twenty-six-year-old Megan K. Tate who resides in Sulphur Springs, Ohio. Robert was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and he was transported to the Bucyrus Community Hospital by the ambulance service for his injuries. He was treated and released from the hospital and Megan was issued a traffic citation for assured clear distance ahead. Her vehicle was not towed from the scene and alcohol and drugs are not suspected in the crash which is still under investigation.
