Press release

Registration for the 2017 Summer Reading Program at the Bucyrus Public Library will begin on May 31. This year’s theme is “Build a Better World,” with a focus on construction and improving our community. We invite all children, youth, and adults in the area to read and take part in activities at the library this summer. Everyone is welcome to complete an architectural scavenger hunt, identifying 12 interesting buildings in Bucyrus.

Preschool story time will be held on Monday nights from 6:30-7:15 and on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings from 10:30-11:15. Each week has a different theme, such as trains, clothes, and castles. Craft days and snack-and-play days are held once a month.

The age groups for Summer Reading are Preschool, Grades K-2, Grades 2-3, and Grades 4-6. Children will be placed into three reading teams, and a winning team will be announced on July 28. Coupon prizes will be given out for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 hour goals. Readers who finish their reading contracts have a chance to win a bicycle!

Summer family programs include Magician Mark Wood (June 9), LEGO Block Party (June 16), Bill Fisher from the Crawford County Park District (June 23), 100 Cup Build Challenge (June 30, all day), Pop Artist Michael Albert (June 30), Bats in the Library! (July 7), Butterflies with Jerry Schneider (July 14), passive programs during Fair Week (week of July 16), and a party for the final drawings (July 28). All programs begin at 2pm in the A/B Community Room.

The Bucyrus Public Library will be a participating site in the summer lunch program this year. Come enjoy lunch and programming through the OSU Extension Office! The lunch time will be announced at a later date.
