The Ad-Hoc Bucyrus Sign Committee met Wednesday evening to discuss improving the ordinances on signage for the city.

Diving into conversations of what makes a good sign and what makes a bad sign, the committee began making proposed changes to the sign ordinance dealing with temporary signs.

For political signage the committee approved removing the 45 days prior to election time frame and permit requirements to post the signs.

The wording of credit card decals was removed entirely by the committee.

It was suggested by the committee to change the wording of temporary sale signs such as garage or yard sale signs. The committee’s recommendation is to allow those signs to stand seven days prior to the sale as opposed to three days.

Committee members proposed adding to the ordinance temporary signs that identify a service provider such as a lawn care service. The temporary signs of the service provider won’t require a permit and can be posted throughout the duration of service, but cannot be a safety visibility hazard, in the public right of way, or fall into disrepair.

Also discussed was sending a questionnaire to businesses about signage.

Bucyrus City Planning and Zoning Administrator John Roshtash explained if there were questions regarding signage to contact him in his office and he will try to answer them.

The next Bucyrus Sign Committee meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Jan. 15.
