BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Officer Wireman of the Bucyrus Police Department received the prestigious Life Saving Award in recognition of his swift and heroic response to a life-threatening emergency on April 14, 2025. Wireman was honored at Tuesday’s Bucyrus City Council meeting by Bucyrus Police Chief Jon Dorsey.
At approximately 2:00 PM that day, Officer Wireman answered a call for assistance from the Bucyrus Fire Department regarding an unresponsive female.
Upon arriving at the scene, he found the victim (Mrs. Brown) lying unconscious in her driveway after collapsing while mowing her lawn.

Demonstrating remarkable composure, Officer Wireman immediately initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) after discovering the lack of pulse and breathing.
Following several minutes of intense effort, he successfully observed the victim gasping for air and felt a faint pulse.
Paramedics from the Bucyrus Fire Department soon arrived, continuing the medical support and ensuring the woman was swiftly transported to Galion Hospital for further care.
Thanks to Officer Wireman’s quick and decisive actions, the victim made a full recovery and was present at the award ceremony to express her gratitude.
Officer Wireman told the council, “I was the bandaid till they (EMS) got there.”
Wireman told the council that he appreciates all the community support and that he feels appreciated here in Bucyrus. Wireman further complimented Chief Dorsey on the positive changes he’s making in the police department.
