NEWS RELEASE:
Please join us for the dedication of Schines Art Park on Friday, October 20 at 11 a.m. in downtown Bucyrus.
It’s been a long road to the dedication, but we are here thanks to the generosity of state and local sources. You will agree that Schines Art Park is the most unique park in the entire state.
Local artist Scott Mental has created two bold pieces art, one of the original projectors from Schines Theater is on display and world-class mural artist, Eric Grohe, from Seattle has worked his creative magic on the park wall.
Local engineer, Lyn Makeever, and Eric Grohe designed Schines Art Park.
Funding was made possible by the efforts of Senator Dave Burke and the State of Ohio as well as many local generous donors. Major local donors include the Timken Foundation, Ohio Mutual Insurance Group, The Community Foundation for Crawford County and Bucyrus Road Materials.
A brief history of the effort…
A local citizens group, led by Joe Armbruster, was able to acquire the dilapidated Schines Theatre with the intention of rehabilitating the structure into a usable theatre. When it became apparent that the effort was not financially possible, former mayor Roger Moore stepped in and, along with Mr. Armbuster, envisioned a beautiful park dedicated to the arts on the site. This vision has now become a reality.
The park is substantially complete except for a permanent stage, which will be added as funds become available. We also plan to add eclectic pieces of art in the future.
It is a beautiful site to behold in downtown Bucyrus!
