William Sykes’ last chance flew by with his latest OVI conviction.
Fifty-four-year-old Sykes of Bucyrus pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence of alcohol, a third-degree felony, in Crawford County Common Pleas Court Thursday morning. He received a 36-month prison sentence – the maximum for this felony – and a lifetime driver’s license suspension. Sykes was ordered to complete a mandatory drug and alcohol treatment program and pay a $2,500 fine. He must also forfeit a 2000 Chevy Silverado to the Bucyrus Police Department.
“In order to get to this to be sent to prison for OVI, you have screwed up too many times to count,” Judge Sean Leuthold said. “If you go back to drinking you go back to prison . . . you’re lucky no one’s been hurt in this time.”

Thirty-six-year-old Cody Goossens of Mt. Vernon pleaded guilty to drug possession, a fifth-degree felony. Leuthold ordered a pre-sentence investigation; a sentencing hearing will be set for a later date.
