Michael Black, 19, was sentenced to three years in prison after violating the conditions of his community control. Black was originally sentenced for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.
He was charged in February and sentenced to 100 days in jail, felony probation and ordered to pay restitution to his victim, Alex Hay. During those proceedings, Black directed profanity toward Judge Sean Leuthold and was sentenced to 60 additional days for Contempt of Court.
Leuthold made Black’s 60 extra days consecutive with the 100 days. Leuthold also noted that Black’s attitude hasn’t improved.
“You’ve used profanity in my courtroom and then today you are copping an attitude with me, Leuthold said. “If you think I’ll tolerate this you’d better think again.”
He reminded Black that he needs to lose the bad attitude. “You’re 19 and you’re off to a very bad start,” Leuthold said. He read a laundry list of charges including theft, failure to comply, contact with another felon and causing a police chase when he would not surrender.
“You think you are a tough guy in Crawford County. Your behavior is what’s B.S.,” Leuthold said. “I am in a position to make you sit every day of this sentence. Get your act together man.”
In other court news, Charles Rowalt, 36, of Galion, was found guilty of Felony Non-support. He was placed on felony probation and was warned by the judge that he’s not in domestic court anymore. “This is a different kettle of fish, Mr. Rowalt,” Leuthold said. “You will pay your child support and your arrearages. Do what you’re supposed to do or I will send you to prison.” Rowalt is $63,000 behind in child support for two children.
