BUCYRUS—Doug Swart, 57, of Bucyrus, pleaded guilty in Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Monday to aggravated drug trafficking and possession of drugs. In an agreed plea negotiation, Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold sentenced Swart to a flat 24 months in prison. He will receive 56 days of jail time credit.

Thomas Wells, 43, of Bucyrus, pleaded guilty to violating the terms and conditions of his community control.

Wells was on community control after he pleaded guilty in 2019 to one count of domestic violence, a felony of the third degree punishable with up to 36 months in prison. After he violated his community control, he was sentenced to and completed a program in a community-based correctional facility.

According to probation officer Eric Bohach, Wells quit reporting for office visits a year ago, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

In an agreed plea negotiation, Judge Leuthold sentenced Wells to a flat 12 months in prison. He must report to the Crawford County Jail by 7 pm on January 2nd for transport to prison.

In other court news, Joshua Crane, 40, of Bucyrus, was indicted by the Crawford County Grand Jury on one count of aggravated vehicular assault, a felony of the third degree punishable with up to 36 months in prison, one count of aggravated possession of meth and one count of aggravated possession of Methamphetamines.

According to allegations, in October, Crane drove his car with his two children inside the vehicle while impaired. He was then involved in a one-vehicle rollover accident on St. Rt. 19. All three passengers were ejected from the car. They were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. One of the children was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.

Judge Leuthold entered a not guilty plea on Crane’s behalf. He appointed attorney Jerry Thompson to represent Crane. His bond was set at $100,000.

Lauren Bennett, 39, of Galion, was indicted on one count of possession of drugs, a felony of the fifth degree punishable with up to 12 months in prison.

Judge Leuthold entered a not guilty plea on her behalf and appointed counsel. She was given a personal recognizance bond.
