BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—A Bucyrus man, Timothy Carnes, is being held on a $200,000 bond in an assault case. Carnes appeared via video from the Crawford County Jail in the Crawford County Common Pleas Court.

He was indicted on charges of felonious assault and strangulation, both second-degree felonies punishable by up to eight years in prison. Additionally, he was charged with aggravated menacing and unlawful restraint, which are first and third-degree misdemeanors.

The victim, who had visible facial injuries and lacerations, went to the Bucyrus Police Department on October 7th to report the assault by her husband. She told police she had been unable to leave her home after her husband assaulted her.

While speaking to the police, she became lethargic and started losing consciousness. She was taken to Bucyrus Community Hospital, where signs of strangulation were discovered. Eventually, she had to be transferred to a larger hospital and was diagnosed with a brain bleed. Although she has regained consciousness, her condition is still critical.

Carnes pleaded not guilty, and Bucyrus attorney Tom Nicholson was appointed to represent him. The State requested a $150,000 bond, but Judge Sean Leuthold set it at $200,000 due to the severity of the victim’s injuries and other allegations

After the bond was set, Carnes used an expletive, leading to a contempt charge from Judge Leuthold. He was given a thirty-day jail sentence. However, Carnes repeated the expletive and was charged with contempt of court again. Leuthold then sentenced him to 60 days in jail and ordered his removal from the proceedings. As Carnes was being escorted out, he used the expletive again, resulting in an increased jail sentence of 90 days to be served consecutively with any other jail time.
