BUCYRUS―A Bucyrus man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after officers received several calls about a suspicious man in the area of South East Street and Woodlawn Avenue at 3:39 p.m.
According to the Bucyrus Police report, a caller requested officers stating a man was acting “whacko” and pounding on the door of a church in the 300 block of South East Street while requesting fire and police assistance. The man was ranting about more going on than a virus. He walked south on East Street and was located by Stouts Laundromat at South East and Lucas Streets.
Employees of Stout’s Laundromat told police there was no fire at the business and when the man was approached by officers, he told them they were not police officers and refused to identify himself. He also said that his clothes were radioactive and his bags needed to be checked.
The man appeared to be having a mental health episode or adverse reaction to drugs and was arrested in the 500 block of South East Street on charges of obstructing official business and taken to the Crawford County Justice.
The man was later identified as Shane Hardymon. He was found to be in possession of suspected narcotics, including about 30 grams of methamphetamine and marijuana.

11:03 a.m.-Officers assisted with EMS personnel for entry into a residence to check on an unresponsive male in the 500 block of South Spring Street. The coroner was contacted as it was the scene of a natural death.
12:08 p.m.-A report of a sex crime was received and is being investigated.
12:32 p.m.-Officers spoke to a woman at Bucyrus City Hall about a possible theft. The person reported cash missing from her purse and she believes it was lifted while she washing shopping at Kroger or WalMart.
2:03 p.m.-An employee of Cooper’s Mill reported an outside freezer broken into overnight.
3:58 p.m.- Officers assisted Portsmouth Ambulance Service in the 1800 block of East Mansfield Street involving a man who was down in the produce section at WalMart. He was taken to Bucyrus Community Hospital by EMS personnel.
4:30 p.m.-Officers disposed of a syringe in the 200 block of North Sandusky Avenue.
6:05 p.m.-Officers searched the area of East Mary and Lane Street for a disabled vehicle. Reportedly a red Chevy S10 with a blue truck bed was occupied by a motorist slumped over in the driver seat. The vehicle was reportedly pulled to the side with flashers on. EMS was summoned also but the vehicle was gone from the area and not located.
6:33 p.m.-Officers were requested for a welfare check in the 1400 block of Whetstone Street. A parent took their toddler inside.
7:11 p.m.-Officers responded to an assault in the 500 block of North Lane Street. A person reported being kicked in the head during a fight about an hour earlier and EMS transported the person for treatment at Bucyrus Community Hospital. The victim reported being assaulted by someone known to him after a basketball gathering at Harmon Park. The incident remains under investigation.
7:17 p.m.-Officers checked the 700 block of Plymouth Street for a 911 hang-up call. No incident was located.
8:24 p.m.-Officers spoke with a resident regarding telecommunications harassment.

12:00 a.m.-A report of a suspicious vehicle in the 100 block of Franklin Street was investigated. People were in a vehicle waiting to meet someone.
