BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Bucyrus Little Theatre (BLT) has announced a schedule change for its upcoming production of “Bat Boy: The Musical,” moving Saturday performances to afternoon matinees to ensure high school performers do not miss local Homecoming dances.

The musical, described as a darkly comedic and heartfelt show, will feature six performances over two weekends: Oct. 17-19 and Oct. 24-26.

To accommodate cast members from Wynford and Colonel Crawford high schools, the Saturday shows on Oct. 18 and Oct. 25 have been shifted from evening to 2 p.m. matinees. Friday shows remain at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday shows are at 2 p.m.

“We’re excited to bring this bold and unconventional musical to Bucyrus,” said director Scott Leon Smith. “This shift will allow our younger performers to shine on stage and still enjoy their school festivities.”

In celebration of the local high school tradition, the theatre is offering high school students a free box of popcorn if they attend the Saturday matinees wearing their formal attire, such as a homecoming dress or tuxedo.

BLT President Abigail Kanellakis encouraged students to “make a day of it,” suggesting they attend the matinee in formal wear before heading to dinner and their dance.

The musical, based on a story licensed from Weekly World News, tells the story of Edgar, a half-boy, half-bat creature, and his struggle for acceptance in a prejudiced small town. Due to mature themes and language, the show is recommended for mature audiences only.

The production features a talented ensemble, led by Darius Darmody as Bat Boy/Edgar, with rising teenage star Cynthia Carvel of River Valley High School as Shelley Parker.

Tickets for the show are available now. The public may purchase tickets by calling the box office at 419-562-0731 or online at bucyruslittletheatre.com.
