Science is the theme for this summer’s reading programs at the Bucyrus Public Library which kicks-off this Friday, June 13 at 2:00 pm.

Preschoolers through 6th grade will ‘Fizz, Boom, Read’ for a chance to win one of four bicycles or an autographed book. Incentives donated by area businesses will be awarded for increments of hours read. The Young Adults will ‘Spark a Reaction’ and will be keeping track of number of hours read for a chance to win a Nextbook Tablet, gift cards, books and more. Adults 18 and over will enjoy ‘Literary Elements’ to win one of two Nextbook tablets or baskets of books. Adults will be keeping track of the number of books read and will be receiving incentives for 5 and 10 books read and also for completing the scavenger hunt and reading wheel.

Friday, June 13, the library will be “Bringing the Farm to You: Beekeeping” where participants will view the inner parts of a hive and learn the intricate life cycle and habits of the queen, workers and drones. Our lively beekeeper will get suited up, bringing tales, preserved specimens and a complete hive. No live bees will be in attendance.

On Thursday, June 12 at 3:00 pm the Young Adults are invited to participate in a Game Day in the young adult room. Those attending will be able to play video, board and computer games!

Saturday, June 21 at 11:00 am the library will host “The Science of Storm Chasing” when Central Ohio Storm Chaser Aaron Rigsby comes to the library and shares his insights on storm chasing and when and where they decide to chase a storm. Refreshments will be served by the Friends of the Library following the program.
