BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The city is taking a “bite” out of Ohio’s tourism industry with a new website, social media ads, and plenty of apple-related events for the fall season.

The Bucyrus Tourism & Visitors Bureau’s new website is just one marketing tool being developed to promote the city and what is has to offer, according to Casie Grau, executive director of the Bucyrus Area Chamber of Commerce.

“We had conversations in the spring and decided that marketing is really what we needed to put the emphasis on,” Grau said, “and the landing page is one of them.”

The website – visitbucyrus.org – was created locally by Tad Fannin Marketing.  Featured attractions include The Pickwick Place, Cooper’s Mill & Market, Crossroads Candles, Bucyrus Copper Kettle Works, Harvey One-Room School, and Mark’s Homemade Ice Cream.

Dubbed “Visit BucyrUS,” the site is part of a collaborative campaign to market Bucyrus as a tourist destination this fall, Grau said.  The town is billed on the page as a “quintessential autumn getaway with an apple-themed adventure.”

On the state level, Bucyrus is also featured as one of five “charming towns” to check out for a perfect weekend getaway, especially when it comes to celebrating one of autumn’s favorite fruits.

Several Crawford County attractions, parks, and restaurants are listed on the tourism link of ohio.org. “We were really excited to see the fall blog they did.  It’s a really nice shoutout for us,” Grau said.

One attraction is The Pickwick Place, 1875 N. Sandusky Ave., which is again celebrating “all things apple” with their biggest fall event – Flannel Fest – held over two weekends, September 14-15 and September 21-22.

“It really kicks off the fall season for us,” said Laura Stuckey, co-owner of the family farm north of town.  “And our apple orchard is a great activity for people of all ages to stop out and enjoy.”

In addition to apple picking, Pickwick will offer a corn maze and even an apple canon for visitors.  Its Apple Bash on September 28 will include specials in the cafe, apple cider slushies, and more.

The Bucyrus Historical Society, 202 S. Walnut Street, is hosting the Great Apple Give Away Day September 13.  Tours of the historic Scroggs House and Carriage House will be offered, and applesauce will be made the old-fashioned way.

The traveling Johnny Appleseed exhibit will also be on display, illustrating the legendary pioneer’s impact on this region in honor of his 250th anniversary.  It will then move to Lowe-Volk Park & Nature Center in Crestline October 15-31.
