BUCYRUS—The Bucyrus Kiwanis Club held a special tree planting ceremony in Kiwanis Grove in honor of the late Dr. Don Wenner.
Dr. Wenner passed away recently at the age of 100 after a long battle with prostate cancer. Wenner served as a doctor for many years in town, and also at Long Beach Naval Hospital, and in the Korean War on the USS Windom Bay CVE 92.
Amongst many of the great things Dr. Wenner did, titles he held, and organizations he was a part of, being a member of the Kiwanis Club was something that he thoroughly enjoyed. Dr. Wenner joined the Kiwanis Club after retirement when he was 70 years old.
Past Kiwanis president and current board member, Nate Roshon, addressed those who attend the ceremony, “We dedicate both Kiwanis Grove, a new effort next to the Friendship Bridge, and our first tree planting to Dr. Don Wenner, who we know was a wonderful man, fellow Kiwanian, a philanthropist, and just a wonderful giver who we lost just recently.”
“It is my privilege to dedicate this tree planting in his memory, and we look forward to many more plantings in honor of dedicated Kiwanians who have given to Bucyrus and given to our community,” Roshon said.
The tree that was planted in honor of Dr. Wenner is a yellow buckeye.
Dr. Wenner’s family was in attendance and said that Dr. Wenner really loved participating in the Kiwanis Club, and it was a major part of his life.
