Bucyrus Schools sent a group of students to learn more about the Ohio Energy Project Youth Leadership Summit. Officers of the Bucyrus High School Science Club were trained on how to conduct an energy fair for the 5th graders in the spring. The officers wish to bring a better understanding of energy and conservation to students in their district.

The summit’s core philosophy is kids teaching kids and encourages kids to love learning and the science of energy. The youth leaders facilitate hands-on activities focused on energy aligned to new Ohio Academic Standards. The students acquire leadership, presentation and teamwork skills. They will be fully engaged and ready to conduct workshops on energy at their own school. The project will provide the schools with a kit of materials so they can put on a great program at Bucyrus.

“We had a great day at Bowling Green,” Bucyrus High School Science Club Advisor Amanda Kent said. “The students had some great leadership building activities and then practiced leading all the different stations and games about energy.”

The Ohio Energy Project facilitates students and teachers’ understanding of energy and science. Their goal is to empower the next generation of energy consumers. The project has been serving teachers, students, families and partners since 1984. They have won several awards such as the Ohio Association of Nonprofit Organizations Excellence Award, NEED State Program of the year and Environmental Education Council of Ohio, Organization Award.
