The Media Communications and Marketing classes from the Bucyrus Secondary School competed in the District #3 DECA Conference on Tuesday, January 30 at the University of Findlay. 15 Bucyrus DECA members were awarded with top five finishes, with 13 students qualifying for the State DECA Conference in March in Columbus.

Results from the competition included (students in bold were State DECA Conference qualifiers): Gram Dick and Riley Moody (1st place, Business Law and Ethics Team Event); Brooklyn Spears (2nd place, Sports and Entertainment Series Event); MaryKate Heinle (2nd place, Food Marketing Series Event); Clinton Carr (3rd place, Quick Serve Restaurant Series Event); Abby Hart (3rd Place, Retail Merchandising Series Event); Macy Hillman (3rd Place, Sports and Entertainment Promotion Plan); Jacob Lambert (3rd Place, Business Finance Series Event); Kenton Lutz (3rd Place Apparel and Accessories Series Event); Jo Metz (3rd Place, Professional Selling); Aubrey Dye, (4th Place, Hotel and Lodging Series Event); Nic Horsley (4th Place, Automotive Series Event); Jacob Lambert (4th Place, Principles of Marketing Event); Graham Ditmars and Bryce Stewart (5th Place, Entrepreneurship Team Event). Alivia Lewis, Shaina Orewiler and Donna Richardson are completing a Hospitality and Tourism Research Paper and Presentation, which qualifies them for the State DECA Conference.

DECA Advisor Jeff Funigiello was pleased with the students’ results. “I’m proud of the students’ effort and results from the competition,” he said. “Our students compete in one of the most competitive districts in the state, and I never know what to expect going in.

“Over the past several weeks, many students stayed after school during their free time to practice and study. It is exciting that their hard work paid off.”
