Attendees to Dillinger’s Event Center on Friday night weren’t puttin’ on the Ritz. They were, however, Puttin’ on the Dog for the Humane Society Serving Crawford County. In its ninth year, the Puttin’ on the Dog event continues to be one of the humane society’s largest fundraisers. The funds from the event help with the over 1,700 animals that the local humane society sees, including medical care for the animals, operating expenses, and helping to keep the doors open on the organization.

Humane Society Serving Crawford County Director Victoria Carmean spoke about the origins of the Puttin’ on the Dog event.“It actually started with Doug Garverick from Galion with the idea of having an auction with memorabilia of sports, music, and artwork,” Carmean said. “It has just kind of evolved over the years to what it has become now, which is a great collection of items donated from the community.”

The Puttin’ on the Dog event started at 6 p.m. and went until 10 p.m. with dinner, raffles, and games taking place. At 7:30 p.m. auctioneer Craig Miley took center stage for the live auction portion of the evening.

Items featured at the auction included a paw print pendant donated by Barb Ley of Ley’s Jewelry, a Father’s Day pack featuring a blue cooler, socks, grilling sauces, and meat, Indians tickets, and a gift certificate to the Refectory Restaurant and Bistro in Columbus.

Carmean and the Humane Society Serving Crawford County thanked the sponsors The Timken Co., United Bank, First Federal Bank, AAA Bucyrus, Sycamore Creek Golf Course, Ohio Mutual Insurance Group, Craig Miley, Dillinger’s Event Center and Shawn Ridgeway. Carmean also thanked the volunteers and staff for the hours that they put to make the event a success.
