In the quest to deliver some holiday cheer to the less fortunate, the Bucyrus Fire Department will hold its fourth annual Toy Drive on Saturday.
Beginning at 9 and lasting until noon the Bucyrus Fire Department will be accepting donations of unopened toys, canned foods and monetary donations at the Central Station at 223 E. Mansfield St.
In his second year of organizing the event Bucyrus firefighter Kevin Phillips explains how the toy drive works.
“People come through, they drive through the back of the station and out the front, and we collect toys,” Phillips said. “And then the following Monday we take them over to Children’s Services and they distribute them, because they know who needs them.”
Phillips also explained that canned food donations go to area food pantries and soup kitchens. Money collected will go towards the purchase of Kroger gift cards and be given to the area pantries as well.
A toy drop off box will also be placed at the Kroger store at 210 E. Mary St. for those who want to donate, but might not be able to make it to the toy drive at the fire station.
