Despite the spectacular success of this year’s Spooktacular event, the Bucyrus Fire Department still has a few boxes of candy left over.

It’s become an open secret that the Fire Department will be passing out some of the boxes during Bucyrus’ trick-or-treat event, which has been moved to Saturday due to weather forecasts. Firefighter Casey Gillen said he has already heard rumblings across town that people know there’s boxes left over from Spooktacular but he’s hoping that families will be a little understanding if there’s not enough to go around.

“I try to spread it out,” Gillen said, “let all the kids have a little something.”

Gillen also made a stop at Altercare this week to donate 100 boxes.

Though Gillen plans on helping the children of Bucyrus celebrate the spirit of Halloween, he hopes that enough will be left over to donate to soldiers overseas.

“I know what it feels like to get mail,” said Gillen, who is a military veteran. He wants to send on that feeling to the troops stationed overseas.
