While Giving Tuesday has already come and passed, the Bucyrus Fire Department is looking for the public’s help in giving some holiday cheer to those less fortunate with their annual Christmas Toy Drive.
Starting at 9 a.m. and running until noon on Saturday, December 10, the Bucyrus Fire Department will convert their Mansfield Street station, at 223 East Mansfield Street, into a drive-through for people dropping off donations for the toy drive.
Bucyrus firefighter Greg Hershey explained what the fire department is looking for in donations for the toy drive.
“We are looking for any new toys for just about any age group. For the older kids we are looking to do coats again this year. We are getting with Jobs and Family Services. We had such a good turn out with the coats last year that I think we have talked about getting those same kids hats and gloves to go with their coat, and some different things,” Hershey said. “It’s going to really depend on the monetary donation on that aspect.”
Those dropping off toys on the day of the toy drive can drive through the back of the firehouse and park inside while the fire department unloads the toys.
Hershey noted what the fire department enjoys most about doing the toy drive.
“We like to give back to the community, we have a big heart for the kids, and this is just one way to give back and help out,” Hershey said.
Those who can’t make the toy drive are able to drop off toys at any point at the Mansfield Street station. Donations will also be accepted right now at the following locations:
- Bucyrus Kroger (210 E. Mary St.)
- Family Farm & Home (2460 E. Mansfield St.)
