The outpouring of support for the nutritional wellbeing of children in the Bucyrus community continues to be very strong. The Bucyrus Elks Lodge #156, through the Elks National Foundation Grand Lodge, awarded a $2,000 Beacon Grant to the Backpack Program.
“The local support, including the Bucyrus Elks Lodge #156, is tremendous,” Food Services Director Lorie Pennington said. “This really shows that our community continues to support children in this community.”
This show of support for the Bucyrus City Schools continues a long tradition of involvement in the education of the community’s young people by the Bucyrus Elks Lodge.
“The Bucyrus Elks Lodge is very proud to be a community partner with the Bucyrus City Schools,” Elks Lodge #156 Trustee Doug Schiefer said. “Elks members continue to see the need for this program in our community, and through the Elks National Foundation Community Investments Program the local Bucyrus Elks Lodge will continue to provide financial support to bring good nutrition to our community’s children.”
Currently serving 140 students, the Backpack Program is going through an expansion and these funds will help in that effort.
“We can not begin to thank the Bucyrus Elks Lodge #156 enough for their continued support of the Bucyrus City Schools,” Superintendent Kevin Kimmel said. “Community partnerships and investments like this allow us to continue providing quality programs, such as the Backpack Program, to the students that need it the most. We are grateful for every dollar that has been given to support the nutritional wellbeing of our students.”
