The Bucyrus Lady Redmen basketball team is in search of a new coach with the resignation of Bethany Guinther.
Guinther’s resignation, which is effective April 20, was approved by the Bucyrus Board of Education Tuesday night. Guinther went 6-17 overall last season while finishing seventh in the N10 with a 3-13 record. Over the previous three seasons under Guinther the Lady Redmen won a total of 30 games while losing 41.
The Bucyrus cheerleading program will be losing a few coaches after the board approved the resignations of Amy Plumley effective April 1, and Melissa Kennedy effective May 25.
Bucyrus Elementary School teacher Virginia Michalek had her resignation papers approved by the Bucyrus Board of Education. Michalek’s resignation is effective June 1.
The Bucyrus school board also approved rescinding the resignation for Hannah Herring, and have instead approved a 2-year leave of absence.
The Bucyrus Board of Education approved the non-renewal of all extra-curricular, and co-curricular staff upon the completion of the 2016-2017 school year.
Superintendent Kevin Kimmel noted that this is just year-end procedures, and that Bucyrus intends to bring those staff members back in their positions next year.
The Bucyrus school board approved a transfer of $111,497.28 from the General Fund to the Permanent Improvement Fund. The funds will be split over five improvements including $46,900 for track re-surfacing, $19,062.88 for LED gym lighting, $4,700 for bus cameras, $4,184.40 for carpet replacement, and $36,650 for elementary school repairs.
The Bucyrus Backpack Program received a boost from the Bucyrus Art Club’s Empty Bowls fundraiser. As he was presenting the check, teacher Michael Striker noted that the bowls were donated from the Bucyrus Elks. All of the funds were able to be donated this year for a total of $1,080. Striker noted that it should be able to fill 180 backpacks.
During his report to the board, Treasurer Ryan Cook asked for and received the board’s approval with Perry Corp. for a 60-month lease for the replacement of the district’s copy machines. Cook noted that the lease would save the district roughly $60,000 over that time.
The Bucyrus Board of Education approved all items on the agenda without a dissenting vote.
