Prom decorations are normally discarded once the last song is played. However, this year’s Bucyrus High School prom decorations received a second life thanks to the staff at Signature Healthcare in Galion.

Signature Healthcare Quality of Life Director Candy Yocum contacted prom co-advisor Kayli McCullough and asked if the district would be interested in donating the used decorations for their “Senior Prom.”

“Signature Healthcare initially contacted Kayli about their idea,” Prom co-advisor Amy Moody said. “When she approached me, I thought it was a great idea and a positive way to help the larger Crawford County community.”

Moody, McCullough and others worked tirelessly to carefully disassemble the decorations and prepare them for transportation.

“Mr. and Mrs. Massara, student volunteers, custodians, and Kayli and I were all trying our best to take things down without hurting them so they could be reused,” Moody said. “It was time consuming but we all worked together to try and save the decorations for them.”

To get the decorations to Signature Healthcare, located in Galion, Moody arranged for her mother to help with delivery because of her proximity to the facility.

“Kayli and I wanted the decorations to go to good use,” Moody said. “Signature Healthcare was the perfect fit because their residents are fabulous and any enjoyment they received from our donation is priceless.”

“This was a wonderful opportunity for our building to give back to the community,” Secondary Principal Dr. Mark Burke said. “I cannot thank Kayli and Amy enough for the positive example they set for our students by agreeing to donate our prom decorations to Signature Healthcare.”
