BUCYRUS — Bucyrus City Council met in city hall Thursday evening to amend the airport bid legislation. The resolution was passed Feb. 6 to include three items: Replace the rotating beacon, resurface apron areas A and C and crack seal taxiways B and C at Port Bucyrus. This project was not to exceed $150,000.
Crawford, Murphy and Tilly (CMT) is the engineering firm working on the project. According to a letter sent to council by Mayor Jeff Reser, before the project went to bid, CMT pulled the beacon without notifying the city. Two bids were received but not awarded. After further review, the law director advised CMT that the project would have to be re-bid after council amended the legislation to remove the beacon.
Portions of the costs for the runway repair come from a grant through the FAA. They will cover 90 percent of the costs, the state will cover five percent of the costs and the City of Bucyrus will cover five percent of the costs, which will amount to $7,500.
The FAA approved the extension to complete the grant applications to Aug. 13. Council had to call a special meeting to pass the legislation. Thursday’s special council meeting was called to extend the deadline by declaring it an emergency and then adopting the resolution by a unanimous vote.
The legal notice must run for two weeks. Therefore, council passed legislation to run the notice on July 27 and Aug. 3 and the board of control can award the bids on Aug. 13 to be compliant.
