BUCYRUS–A longtime Bucyrus company is “plowing” ahead as it gears up for Old Man Winter.
The Dexter Company, 4933 Stetzer Road, is already busy selling snow plows, salt spreaders, strobe lights, and accessories to dozens of municipalities across the state, according to Eric Goodrich, director of financial operations for the company.
“From the little snowplows to the spreaders, we’ve been selling quite a few to individuals, installing about five a week so far, and then all the way up to the municipalities,” Goodrich said. “From the ones for half-ton trucks for driveways and on up.”
The company, a full-service facility for outfitting trucks, has most of its equipment on site. But the firm also provides service, parts, and installation for more than 60 product lines, including the TIGER Corporation brand of highway mowing equipment.
Its current complex, which was built in 1995, also offers a sandblasting and painting division, Goodrich said, so that worn-out equipment can be welded, refurbished, and made to look new again. “We pride ourselves in customer satisfaction.”
The Dexter Company was founded back in 1977 by Bucyrus residents Bob and Dot Hubble. Originally known as the Dexter Drier Company, the business in its early years primarily sold grain dryers and parts to farmers in the Crawford County area.
In 1985, the company introduced snowplows and liquid spray systems to its product line, along with road grader cutting edges used by cities across the state. Truck equipment for maintaining township roads and highways were also added a short time later.
The firm in 1989 became the sole authorized TIGER mower dealer in Ohio and, to this day, is still recognized as one of the top 10 TIGER dealerships worldwide. After outgrowing locations in Tallmadge and Galion, it moved to the new Stetzer Road site.
Current owners Al and Jan (Hubble) Fulton are carrying on The Dexter Company’s 40-year tradition of providing quality products and customer service, Goodrich said.
He said business has been good, and the company is looking to hire after the first of the year. “It’s been a great year that we had. This upcoming year looks like it’s going to be just as great. It’s definitely looking great down the road.”
