While the winter season may bring snow and colder temperatures, it also brings the start of the spelling bee “season” for students across the country. Since December, Bucyrus Elementary and Middle School students have been exercising their spelling bee skills with several goals in mind.
Following a district-wide spelling test with the 15 top grade level spellers in grades 4-8, six total winning spellers were determined to qualify for the local bee.
The following Bucyrus students have been invited to compete in the Crawford County Spelling Bee at 7:00 p.m. at Bucyrus High School Jan. 11.
Macy Dyer (fourth grade), Elizabeth Wilson (fifth grade), Chris Palmer (sixth grade), Alison Fraser (seventh grade), Ashley Davis (eighth grade) and Rosalyn Johnson (eighth grade) will represent the district in the Crawford County Spelling Bee.
Students have met with Gifted Coordinator, Carrie Wood, to receive certificates, study packets and review Spelling Bee Guidelines.
The top twelve finishers in the Crawford County Spelling Bee will advance to the Tri-County Spelling Bee. This event will be held at the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center in Mansfield.
“I want to commend all of our students for their hard work in preparing for the spelling bee,” said Superintendent Kevin Kimmel. “I wish all our students the best of luck at this year’s county spelling bee.”
