BUCYRUS — With the start of the new school year just around the corner, Bucyrus City Schools have released their back-to-school plan.

Under a level one public emergency, preschool students will have half-day sessions and K-12 will attend school all day, every day. There will be bus services provided, and face coverings are mandatory for all riders. There will only be two students allowed per seat, and staggered arrival and dismissal times that will be determined by building administration.

Parents are to assess students’ health before sending them to school. Staff and students are to social distance and wear approved face coverings — masks, neck gaiters or face shields. There is to be frequent hand sanitizing and all surfaces will be cleaned frequently.

Lunchroom spaces have been expanded to other areas to accommodate social distancing, and breakfast will be grab-and-go or in classrooms.

There are to be no visitors or volunteers, and there will be no field trips or large gatherings of students. Students are not to share supplies.

If levels 2 and/or 3 are reached, there will still be half-day sessions for preschool, but K-5 will have an a.m./p.m. schedule where 50% will attend in the morning and the others in the afternoon. Breakfast and take-home lunch will be available for the morning students, and lunch and take-home breakfast will be provided for the afternoon students.

For grades 6-12 there will be a split schedule where middle school students will have in-person learning on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with online learning on Tuesday and Thursday. High school students will have the opposite schedule where they will be in person on Tuesday and Thursday, and online on Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Should levels 2 or 3 be reached, there will be an adjusted bell schedule for remote learning and attendance will be taken daily during Google classroom.

All other provisions outlined in level 1 are in place for levels 2 and 3.

Should level 4 be reached, school will be completely moved to a remote learning format. Attendance will be taken daily during Google or Zoom classroom. The school will provide grab and go breakfast and lunch to students.

There will be adjusted special education services per the IEP.
