BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW) —In a heartfelt announcement during the Bucyrus City Council meeting on Tuesday night, Councilwoman Vicki Dishon introduced the council to four of the reasons she had decided not to seek re-election for another term: her four grandchildren.
Dishon emphasized that one of the primary reasons for her decision was her desire to spend more time with her grandchildren.
Joined by her grandchildren at the podium, Dishon introduced Lorelei, 9, in the 4th grade from Goshen, Indiana; Kyndal, 11, in the 6th grade from Perrysburg, Ohio; Landon, 13, in the 8th grade from Goshen, Indiana; and Koltyn, 14, a Freshman from Perrysburg, Ohio.
Dishon told Crawford County Now:
“When I considered running for Bucyrus City Council, I was concerned about missing my grandchildren’s school and sport activities scheduled on Council and Committee days.
My grandchildren told “Nana” that they were fine if I had to miss some. However, as time has gone on, this soon-to-be 70-year-old has realized she is not fine with that and is one of the reasons why I did not seek re-election for the upcoming 2026-2027 Council term.
Having served 38 plus years as the Law Clerk for five Bucyrus City Law Directors, with one of my main duties being the preparation of legislation for Council’s consideration, I believe the experience and knowledge acquired by me continues to be an invaluable asset to City Council.
I also believe it is my duty to be meticulous and conscientious when reviewing both legislation and council/committee minutes that I am being asked to vote on. Others however, do not accept my work ethic and have called me picky, condescending, a clucking hen, and unhinged, to name a few. My first term on Council has been quite interesting to say the least.
I have enjoyed, and will miss the most, researching City/Council matters and talking with my constituents. My husband, Steve refers to my home computer room as “City Hall Annex”.
Thave been asked if I will be returning to Council Chambers as a public participant after my term on Council has ended. My response has been “no”. Future plans include spending more time with my grandchildren, watching them participate in school and sport activities and local volunteer work.
I wish to thank those who have supported me during my journey as a Council-at-Large member. It is much appreciated and has not gone unnoticed.”
