BUCYRUS—During the Bucyrus City Council Joint Committee Meeting Thursday evening, a council member made a request pertaining to the Public Lands and Building section of the meeting.
Council Member C. Aaron Sharrock asked the council to re-open the Council Clerk’s Office, previously closed by Council President Kurt Fankhauser.
“We need to open the council office. We need to get the Council clerk working again,” she said. “We need all this (closure) to come to a halt, I was informed there is no current investigation on any parties. So that makes this no longer a crime scene and that makes the office usable.”
Councilmember Kevin Myers made a motion to open the Clerk’s Office, Councilmember Bruce Truka seconded the motion. All members present voted in favor of opening the office.
Section 111.13 of the City’s Codified Ordinance delegates the responsibility of city offices to the council. This is the legislation that allows the council to make this decision.
Out of an executive session, the Finance Committee made a referral, and legislation was requested that the Finance Committee will be the direct supervisors of the Council Clerk Office going forward. This still has to go to the full council to be voted on. The Finance Committee also asked for legislation creating an Ethics Committee that will encompass all city employees including elected officials.
The Council Clerk’s office will be open as of Friday morning.
