BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Bucyrus City Council Health and Safety Committee convened for a special meeting on Monday in the council chambers to discuss proposed legislation concerning the city’s camera services and related infrastructure.

At the previous committee meeting, Law Director Brandon Gobrecht was assigned the task of drafting legislation to solicit requests for proposals and bids for these services, which are currently provided on a donation basis by Wavelinc.

The main purpose of the special meeting was to review the drafted legislation in preparation for presentation at the full council meeting scheduled for Tuesday. However, during the discussions, committee member Kevin Myers, who also chairs the Finance Committee, raised concerns regarding the administration’s current efforts to gather quotes from alternative providers. He noted that no financial figures have been obtained yet and highlighted the absence of a review of the proposed 2025 budget.

Myers expressed his reservations, stating, “It is my opinion that this go nowhere right now. We are not ready.” His sentiments were echoed by Councilman James Mee, prompting Myers to make a motion to table the legislation indefinitely. The motion received unanimous approval via roll call vote.

The Health and Safety Committee is chaired by Vicki Dishon and includes council members C. Aaron Sharrock, James Mee, and Kevin Myers. The committee will continue to monitor the situation as they await further information and budget reviews before proceeding with the proposed legislation.
