BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Bucyrus City Council convened for their regular meeting on Tuesday evening, where Mayor Truka provided updates on various city projects. He informed the council that the installation of stormwater sewers on Dudley Street is currently underway, with plans to install a new base for the street before paving. Additionally, the water waste treatment plant staff recently met with an engineering company to assess the plant’s condition and operation.

During the meeting, it was reported that a notification letter was sent to the owner of the old Swan Hose building, requesting a timetable for securing the property and a plan from a Richland County engineering firm to bring it up to safety standards.

Despite previous requests, the owner has not responded. The owner is said to be working with the engineering firm to devise a plan.

Mayor Truka also acknowledged the Women’s Auxiliary of AMVETS Post 27 for their generous $1000 donation towards supporting the Aumiller pool.

He praised Jennifer Allonas and her staff for their dedication to opening the pool for the community, as well as Jeff Dunn for preparing the pool for its opening day.

In other news, the city administration and Police Chief Neil Assenheimer successfully acquired a used police cruiser with low mileage, which will be equipped with existing equipment from a retired cruiser. The council also recognized Louis Katona, III from Katona Realty for providing free appraisals for city properties, including the north-end fire station and land south of Clady’s behind Wendy’s.

To end the meeting on a light note, the council sang Happy Birthday to council clerk Miranda Wise, led by Council President Kurt Fankhauser. The cake was provided for all attendees to enjoy after the meeting.

Committees are scheduled to meet on Thursday at 6 pm in council chambers to discuss further city business and projects.
