BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Bucyrus Mayor Bruce Truka has scheduled a special finance committee meeting in the council chambers on Wednesday at 6 pm. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss eliminating the out-of-town worker tax credit. The public is encouraged to attend.
If the entire 2% tax is repealed, higher-paid residents who work in other communities and pay income taxes at a rate of 2% will be greatly affected. For example, an out-of-town worker earning $100,000.00 per year would owe the city $2000.00.
Council President Kurt Fankhauser has revealed that the city’s cash is much lower than previously believed. If tough decisions are not made, Bucyrus could face a fiscal emergency.
Newly elected council members are feeling blindsided by these revelations and are calling for full financial transparency. They also want exact accountability for city expenses and spending.
Crawford County Now will continue to cover this developing story.
