BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Bucyrus City Council Health and Safety Committee met on Thursday to discuss potential rules and regulations for marijuana dispensaries within the city limits.
At the meeting on August 8, 2024, Bucyrus Zoning Administrator Mike Keefe proposed that the council adopt the Ohio Revised Code on this matter to regulate sales in Bucyrus.
Trulieve Dispensary, a major player in the industry and one of the largest dispensaries in the country, has shown interest in establishing a recreational marijuana sales location in Bucyrus. The company is eyeing land north of Bucyrus near the intersection of Routes 30 and 4.
Health and Safety Committee Chairwoman Vicki Dishon previously requested Law Director Brian Gernert prepare the necessary legislation for the council. However, Gernert has been absent from his office for almost a month following an arrest on suspicion of DUI. Gernert is currently undergoing treatment.
In Gernert’s absence, the council was left without a law director until this week when Brandon Gobrecht stepped in as interim law director to assist the community. Despite having his own city email, Gobrecht does not have access to documents on Gernert’s computer. Therefore, Council Clerk Miranda Wise was tasked by Dishon to forward relevant information to Gobrecht so he could draft the legislation for the approval of recreational marijuana sales within the city.
Once the legislation is drafted, it will need to be approved by the council. The developments surrounding this issue will be monitored by Crawford County Now.
