BUCYRUS—DT Petroleum Service has been “filling” the needs of North Central Ohio customers for 30 years.
The local company, operated by Tim and Diana Shroll, is known for supplying petroleum – propane, fuel oil, diesel, and gasoline to agricultural, industrial, commercial, and residential customers in Crawford and surrounding counties.

Their philosophy? A commitment to hometown values, integrity, and honesty since 1992.
“It’s expanded quite a bit over the years. I can’t complain. It’s been good for us,” said owner Tim Shroll. “We’ve tried to stay small as much as we can but at the same time treat them, our customers, special so they’re not just a number.”

To celebrate their 30th anniversary, DT Petroleum is offering a special on propane tanks for barbecue grills – $8 for a fill, cash only, on June 3 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and June 4 from 8 a.m. to noon at their 1105 W. Mansfield Street location.
The promotion is a tradition at DT Petroleum, drawing a line of cars out to the road, Shroll said.
“It started out as a customer appreciation day and through the years we just kept with it. The girls take the money when they pull in and we just start filling.”

The Shrolls launched the business in 1992 after working 15 years for Diana’s father at Linn Acres Soil Service. They purchased a small retail shop on the same site that sold fuel oil, propane gas, and diesel fuel and immediately began expanding, Tim Shroll said.
In 1996 bulk propane was added to the company’s product line-up. He said the family business was also awarded the contract to supply all the diesel fuel for work on the U.S. Route 30 expansion project from Bucyrus to Upper Sandusky and then Bucyrus to Mansfield.

The project meant refueling road equipment twice a day – bulldozers, backhoes, and excavators, to name a few, Shroll said. “It kind of put us on the map, really. We were handling thousands of diesel fuel tanks a day. We were fortunate to be involved with that.”
DT Petroleum now has 12 employees and maintains a fleet of 13 trucks. A satellite plant on U.S. 42 in Mt. Gilead opened in 2010, Shroll said, to facilitate fuel deliveries to customers in Morrow, Marion, Hardin, Knox, and Delaware counties.

The company’s physical site has also grown over the years to include four buildings – a shop, main office, oil storage building, and a truck storage building. DT Petroleum also sells and installs a variety of wall heaters, gas logs, and fireplaces.
“Building the business with Tim has been a joy over the last 30 years. I have always worked alongside him. We make a great team,” Diana Shroll said. “Keeping the community and surrounding counties ‘warm’ has been a privilege for us.”
