A drive through downtown Bucyrus on Friday afternoon yielded a busy view of bustling citizens, welcoming shopkeepers taking to the sidewalks, and even a cartoon character or two as the fifth year of the Bucyrus Block Party carried on.
This time around, the celebration expanded from exclusively the 200 block of town to south of the square and many came out to enjoy the sunshine, door prizes, sales, food, and, ultimately, community.
Jill Logsdon and Kathy Creel of Mizick Miller & Company Inc. team up each year to plan the event.
“We expanded it this year and lots of businesses are participating…and we have lots of activities happening downtown,” Logsdon said. “We have a cookout of bratwurst or hot dogs and all the proceeds that we receive will benefit the charity Together We Hurt, Together We Heal.”
Together We Hurt, Together We Heal, which was named organization of the year by the Bucyrus Area Chamber of Commerce, is a group of people that were brought together after experiencing a loved one being affected by drugs. Their goal is to stop those effects of drugs through prevention, education, and awareness while also providing healing in the present.
Many representatives from Together We Hurt, Together We Heal came to the block party and were able to witness the efforts going into supporting their mission.
When asked why she continues to organize the ever-expanding and thriving block party, Logsdon said that it really comes down to bringing the community together.
