BUCYRUS—On Thursday night, the Bucyrus board of education held both their organizational and regular monthly meeting.
First up, at the organizational meeting, it was voted that Dave Jones remains the board president, and Randy Blankenship was voted vice president.
Blankenship will be the legislative liaison, John Kime will be the representative for Pioneer Career and Technology Center, Blankenship and Christa Graves will be on the athletic council, and Jones and Blankenship will serve as representatives for the upcoming BOSS negotiations.
At the regular board meeting, Superintendent Chrispin informed the board that the beginning of this semester is off to a good start with the middle school and high school doing remote learning, and split sessions in the elementary. Students will be back in school for in-person learning on January 19.
Mr. Chrispin will send an all-call out at a later date but stated that it’s going to be really important when students return on the 19 that they bring their laptops, hotspots, and chargers so that inventory can be taken and repairs can be made so that those devices can be returned to the carts to be used in classes.
When the vaccines make their way into the school for all classified and certified staff members and substitutes, Chrispin said that they will most likely be given on a Thursday, with school canceled the next day in case anyone has any reaction to them and needs time to recover.
Law enforcement workers were not included in the first round of vaccines, but the school district has stated that the Bucyrus Police Department is welcome in the building to get vaccinated.
The board accepted a donation of two hundred and seventy-four dollars for the Bucyrus City School District Staff Scholarship Fund, and they approved a contract with Goodwill Industries for Youth Employment Initiative.
The next board meeting is on February 18 at 5:30 p.m.
