The Bucyrus City Schools’ Food Service department is excited to announce the six finalists for the Bucyrus Elementary School Future Chef Competition. The competition, which is aimed at educating kids about healthy eating habits, will be held at 5:00 p.m. March 10 at the Bucyrus Secondary School.
Finalists, in no particular order, include:
• Joe Rager – 3rd grade
• Madalyn Kimmel – 3rd grade
• Kylee Sparks – 4th grade
• Micah Graves – 5th grade
• Sam Rager – 5th grade
• Karson Kimmel – 5th grade
In order to be considered eligible for competition, students in grades three through five were required to submit a recipe highlighting their favorite healthy sandwich. Forty entries were submitted, making the selection process extremely challenging.
“I was amazed at the number of students wanting to participate in this year’s event,” Food Services Manager Lorie Pennington said. “We had a tie for fifth place, and thanks to the overwhelming number of submissions we were able to take six finalists this year instead of five.”
The Sodexo Chef Manager and Sodexo staff judged the entries. Names of the students were hidden from the judges and final choices were made strictly based on recipes.
“It’s going to be an exciting evening,” Pennington said. “Congratulations to all our finalists and good luck at the cook-off!”
