The Bucyrus Secondary School will host its annual Academic Awards programs to recognize students for their hard work and academic achievement throughout the 2015-2016 school Sunday, April 24. The middle school ceremony will take place at 2 p.m., followed by the high school program at 5 p.m.

The keynote speaker during the middle school program will be Bucyrus alum Jordan Fields. At the conclusion of his speech, awards will be handed out in the six following categories:

  • 4.0 GPA for the year
  • 3.99-3.75 GPA for the year
  • 3.74-3.5 GPA for the year
  • 3.49-3.0 GPA for the year

The middle school awards ceremony represents the commitment of the Bucyrus City School District to support, honor and recognize academic achievement at all levels.

Later that evening, high school students earning a 3.0 or above will also be recognized for their hard work in the area of academics. Dinner and desserts, provided by Special Occasions, will be served from 5-6 p.m. in the high school gym.

The awards portion of the program will begin in the high school gym at 6 p.m. At this time, additional guests are invited to attend. Students will receive awards in the following categories:

  • Freshmen: 3.0 GPA or above
  • Sophomore: 3.0 – 3.24 GPA & 3.25 – 4.0 GPA
  • Juniors: 3.0 – 3.49 GPA & 3.5 – 4.0 GPA
  • Seniors: 3.0 – 3.49 GPA, 3.5 – 3.74 GPA & 3.75 – 4.0 GPA

In addition to academic awards, scholarships will be awarded by the Academic Boosters and seniors earning a 3.75 GPA or above will receive special recognition by a teacher of their choosing. The Academic Boosters would also like to acknowledge and thank the Bay Area Gas Consortium for their contribution to provide additional student scholarship opportunities.

“The Academic Boosters have been putting on this program for many years,” Academic Booster Club event chairperson Amy Plumley said. “It is always well received and honors the students for their hard work in the classroom.”
