BUCYRUS — Theresa Hicks has been a crafter for years and her recent addition of working with miniatures has paid off.

The Bucyrus resident recently won a blue ribbon at the Crawford County Fair in miscellaneous division of the fine arts and crafts contest for 2019.

“I came in and saw the blue ribbon and I was shocked. I can’t believe I won first place. I am so excited,” Hicks said.

Never one to simply sit and watch TV after work at her position as ISO Coordinator at Tramec Sloan in Galion, Hicks is always busy doing something.

“My sister gave me the dollhouse as a gift, so I started decorating it and buying miniatures to paint and put into the house,” Hicks said.

She used materials she already had around her house to create flooring and other details of her themed “abandoned house.”

“I had to think about what one would find in an abandoned house like old furniture, peeling wallpaper, things like that,” Hicks said. “I also used wood, polymer clay and the drill my kids bought me for Christmas to create furniture and other items for the house.”

Hicks said working on the project was a stress-reliever for her.

“I really enjoy creating things and this project was so much fun. I never expected to win at the fair, but it is an added bonus,” Hicks said.

Hicks said with a laugh that she had told her co-workers if she won, she would be wearing the ribbon for a month.

Hicks is already beginning work on her next miniatures project: a miniature diner from the 1950s era.
