NEWS RELEASE:
LUCAS — The Buckeye Central FFA district soils team traveled to Malabar Farm in southeastern Richland County on Sept. 28 to participate in the soil judging competition.
The rural team consisted of Lauren Mann, Graham Geissman, Cadence Vaughn, Owen Diesch and Megan Rhodes.
The urban team was Steven Long, Alivia Niese, Emma Rhodes, Savannah Barnette and Thommy Philips.

The Urban Team placed first of 15 teams at the district contest which qualifies them for the state contest on Oct. 13. Steven Long, Alivia Niese, and Emma Rhodes were the first, second and third place individuals, respectively. Savannah Barnette and Tommy Phillips rounded out the team with 19th and 21st place finishes. A total of 66 students participated in the Urban Contest.
The rural team competed against 18 other schools with a total of 88 students, while the urban team competed against 14 other schools with 66 students.
The rural team placed third while Lauren Mann was the fifth-place individual, Graham Geissman finished 10th, Cadence Vaughn achieved 26th place, Owen Diesch was 27th and Megan Rhodes finished in 42nd.
“The best part of the competition was being able to get closer to some of my classmates and accomplish something cool together” Buckeye Central junior Savannah Barnette said.
The state competition is Saturday, Oct. 13 and the location is to be determined at a later date.
