It was a night of celebration in Carey Tuesday for Buckeye Central as Jenna Karl reached the milestone of 1,000 points in three seasons of play.

After a 20-point outing against Ridgedale Friday night, the Buckeye Central junior was just nine points away from the 1,000-point threshold. With 2.2 seconds to go in the third quarter Karl scored her 1,000th point on a pull-up jumper over a suffocating Carey defense. Karl explained how it felt to get to 1,000 points in her career.

“I am speechless. I didn’t even know I was close until yesterday,” Karl said.

Karl reflected on the jump shot that gave her point 1,000 and 1,001 for her career.

“I kind of knew I was getting close, so it was kind of nerve racking, but I was glad it was over with,” Karl explained.

After Karl hit her shot, an official time out was taken to make the announcement over the loudspeakers as Karl was presented with the game ball. Taking the ball into the stands, Karl celebrated briefly with her family before play resumed.

Buckeye Central head coach Greg Moore spoke about Karl reaching her career milestone.

“Jenna is just a wonderful kid, a great kid to coach. The other day when we were playing Ridgedale, she had no idea she was close to 1,000,” Moore said. “She needed nine at the end of the game, and they wanted her to shoot, and she was like, ‘Why do you want me to shoot for?’ And that is the kind of kid she is, she is just too unselfish. Then after the game, all of her family is there, and she was, ‘What is everyone doing here?’”

Unfortunately, it wasn’t an all-around celebration as the Buckettes came up short in celebrating another victory, as the Carey Lady Blue Devils defeated Buckeye Central 56-39. Karl would finish as the Buckette’s high scorer with 12 points. Teammate Haley Green added 10 points.

Buckeye Central will next play Bucyrus on Saturday, Feb. 4 at home.

Carey was led by Sydney Kin’s 13 points, while Bryanna Curlis added 11 points for the Lady Blue Devils.
