Financially Buckeye Central should be treading calm waters, as the school’s five-year forecast didn’t have too many hiccups in Treasurer Nancy Ackerman’s report Thursday night.

During Ackerman’s forecast she focused on the biggest items that stood out to her. Ackerman started by noting that the increase of tax revenue last year was reflected in this year’s forecast going forward. Ackerman added that while the school’s foundation received a big increase, she did say that there are rumblings that the increase could be short lived with a possible change coming as early as April of next year and as late as June. Ackerman also added that she included a property tax increase of 1% in the forecast.

In expenditures, Ackerman explained that with the school spending money frugally and having a good carryover in previous years that she increased staffing and programming spending. Ackerman also included potential expenditures for the potential auxiliary gymnasium into the forecast.

Ackerman noted that the school was in a good spot for the next two years, but said that the school could start overspending two to three years out. Ackerman added that she wasn’t too alarmed with the over expenditures being so far out in advance, as she has time to plan ahead.

Ackerman did warn of two potential issues in the Permanent Improvements fund with the all-weather track and bleachers at the football stadium possibly needing replaced. Ackerman also added that within the time frame she set aside $150,500 to replace three buses in the school’s fleet.

Ackerman closed by saying that by doing the monthly estimate vs. actual report she is able to easily adjust the five-year forecast.

Buckeye Central Board of Education President Missy McDougal reflected on Ackerman’s forecast.

“I am proud to say as a board that the school has been able to save money for the future,” McDougal said.

The Buckeye Central Board of Education discussed possible secondary options for their proposed auxiliary gym to include with their Request for Proposal being sent out to four businesses. The board agreed to have Superintendent Mark Robinson meet with the four selected companies in a half hour informal meeting with board members Beth Deisch, Jerome Heydinger, and Treasurer Ackerman possibly attending as well.
