Buckeye Central’s newly formed middle school nature club, the Woods Council, hosted the district’s first ever Haunted Halloween event in the Outdoor Learning Lab on Saturday night.

oct 31 1Approximately 300 district residents enjoyed an evening filled with a daylight tour of the woods learning about nocturnal animals, and a horrifying night walk through the haunted 10.5 acre forest. More than 40 students and community volunteers hosted generous visitors who donated about $600 that, after expenses, will be shared by eighth graders for the Washington, D.C. trip in May.

Visitors were treated to local ghost stories by New Washington’s favorite story teller and retired teacher, Joe Blum.

Students wish to thank the BC administration for believing in them and all adult volunteers who helped with the evening’s entertainment.

Signs from the nocturnal animals tour will remain posted for a few weeks. If you missed the event and would like to learn about creatures in our woods, follow the signs along the trails. There’s still time to enjoy fall colors and hear the rustling leaves under foot. The park is open to the community from dawn to dusk.
