On Thursday, Sept. 26, the Buckeye Central FFA district qualifiers competed in the district soil contest in Richland County.
The BC urban team, consisting of Sam Robertson, Ray Stahl, Derek Kalb, and Jaret Shook, swept away the urban contest with a team score of 2,734.5. The urban team will now move on to compete at the state contest.
“The urban team has more work to do to obtain the goals that they have set for themselves for the state level,” Vocational Agriculture teacher Mr. Pope said.
The BC rural team, consisting of Amy Rietschlin, Paul Heydinger, Peter Keller, and Austin Wurm placed eighth in the competition with a team score of 1,415.4.
“Both teams put together good scores for the District Soils Competition,” Pope said. “These students have worked hard to get to this point.”
There were 21 teams that competed in the district competition, including BC, Ashland, Bellevue, Colonel Crawford, Crestview, Firelands, Hillsdale, Loudonville, Lucas, Mapleton, Margaretta, Monroeville, New London, Northmor, Plymouth, Shelby, South Central, Wellington, Western Reserve, Willard, and Wynford.
The BC urban team will be competing at the state contest on Oct. 12.
“I am satisfied with winning district,” Robertson said. “We need to continue to work hard so we can do well at the state contest.”
