On Friday Oct. 31, 11 students from Buckeye Central FFA ventured down to Louisville, Kentucky for the 87th National FFA Convention and Expo and stayed until Saturday afternoon.
The convention started on Wed. Oct. 29 and extended until Nov. 1. The convention is split up into nine sessions where a guest speaker will come in and talk to all the FFA members that attend.
“I am glad I got to go,” Ray Stahl said. “It makes for a great senior memory.”
BC FFA made it to session seven and session eight.
At session seven, Jane Herlong, former Miss America candidate, spoke to the FFA members attending. She lectured the members on how bringing jobs to small towns is important in America’s economy.
At session eight, American Degrees were handed out. An American Degree is the highest degree that an FFA member can receive. There were more than 3,000 American Degrees awarded this year with more than 300 being from Ohio. Four Buckeye Central Alumni received their American Degrees on Saturday morning, Austin McCracken, Ross Jones, Andy Stockmaster, and Ryan Niedermier. Joining the four BC alum, one Wynford Alum – Connor Teters, and Colonel Crawford Alum Kendra Hudson, also received their American Degrees making a total of six American Degrees from Crawford County, which was more than several states.
“It was very cool to get to see the former students walk across the stage and receive their degrees,” Peter Keller said. “It makes me want to try my very best to get to the same level as the four former BC students.”
Aside from just going to the convention, Mr. Tyler Pope also took his students to Louisville Slugger.
“A very fun trip,” Austin Wurm said. “I just wish it didn’t have to end.”
