BUCYRUS — A local Boy Scout troop is offering a night of Christmas fun while parents catch a break.

Boy Scout leader Melissa Gee said Troop 106 is offering babysitting service from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, at the main lodge of Camp Michael.

“We have room and staff for up to 100 kids,” Gee said.

Gee said children who are potty-trained and older and welcome to the event that will feature a special visit from Santa Claus, crafts, games, a movie and snacks.

“We will have stations for the kids to visit for each activity,” said Gee’s son, 12-year-old Russell.

The fee for the babysitting service is $15 per child.

“Our largest fundraiser each year is our popcorn sales, but the boys want to do more each year than that money will cover, such as more camp-outs, earning more badges and trips,” Gee said. “We want to help offset the costs for parents as much as possible through our fundraisers.”

Fourteen-year-old Hunter Bloomfield said the babysitting event will give parents a much-needed break while their kids have a fun event to attend.

“Parents can finish their shopping, wrap gifts or just have some alone time while their kids are here,” Evans said during the troop’s meeting on Tuesday evening at Camp Michael.

Cedric Evans, 17, said the event will be fun for the troop and local children.

“Scouts will be a good influence on younger children,” Evans said.

Gee said information will be available on how children can join the local Cub and Boy Scouts.

Gee and the troop’s other leaders, Lousie Katona III, Nicki Martin and Mary Chance, will be assisting the Boy Scouts with the entire event.

“We encourage people to enroll their children ahead of time for the event so we can make sure we have enough snacks and crafting supplies for the many activities they will be doing,” said Gee.

Parents can call Gee at 419-689-0379 to register their children or RSVP through Gee’s Facebook page.
