BUCYRUS—A Christian-based clothing store has opened its doors in Bucyrus, offering an array of southern chic and country Boho fashions for women of all ages.

Family Roots Boutique, 1315 East Mansfield Street, officially celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting on November 6.

The store is run by a mother-daughter duo from Galion – Stacie Benton and her daughter, Keaton Durbin.

“We try to keep everybody in mind and have a safe space where people feel welcome and beautiful,” said Keaton, a 2018 Galion High School graduate. “Our main focus is to have something you’re going to buy here and wear more than once.”

The 1,200-square-foot space, which formerly housed Boost Mobile, carries several lines of apparel and outerwear ranging in size from extra small through 3X, as well as shoes, jewelry, handbags, and accessories in all price ranges Keaton said.

“Our purpose is to create an environment in which women can feel just how God created us to be and hope our clothes help them find confidence,” she said. “It’s something that my mom and I have struggled with, so it’s definitely a focal point of our business.”

The two actually opened Family Roots Boutique online about a year ago, Keaton said, with weekly Facebook live buying and occasional “pop-up” shops at the Three-Bean Coffee House in Galion. They also set up at vendor shows, then shipped the orders.

“It’s our little quarantine baby from the crazy pandemic,” said Keaton, who is also a student at Ashland University. “We always knew we wanted to have a business together. We thought about a coffee shop, bookstore, and a few other things.”

God led them to the boutique, she said, and they chose a passage from the Bible – Proverbs 31:25 – as the foundation of their tree logo, which is also on the front door. The name, Keaton said, stems from her close-knit family’s roots, which run deep just like a tree.

Since finding the storefront in October, Keaton said, they have painted and remodeled the retail area and fitting rooms, converting it into a white, taupe, and brown color scheme with touches of pink. New shelving and clothing racks have also been added.

So far, the store’s line of denim, especially Kancan jeans in distressed and high-rise styles, have been popular, she said. Other best-sellers include mock neck sweaters, balloon sleeve tunics, waffle knit tops, graphic tees, and knit hats and gloves.

Family Roots also carries health and beauty products and gift items in time for the upcoming holidays.

The store is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 to 5:00.
